Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
The first proverb of the month is particularly auspicious. I’m not sure why. Maybe that’a proverb I heard once. In any case, I think you’ll find today’s selection particularly revealing of the way Klingons view the world. And so, here is your new proverb:
Dajonlu’pa’ bIHeghjaj
may you die before you are captured
What I like best about this proverb is that it gives you some options. Either die, or make darn sure you don’t get captured. Think about that, and remember, qo’mey poSmoH Hol

This proverb demonstrates an aspect of the suffix -pa’ that may seem obvious at first, but which I feel cannot be taken for granted: The phrase “X-pa’ Y” can mean either “Y happens and then X happens”, but it can also mea  “X does not happen because Y happens first”; two rather distinct roles.
I discuss this in my YouTube series:Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R-fp6P_lp4
