Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
I’m glad you’re here. My friend QIb and I have been waiting for you. We want to try out our newest conversation for you, featuring three new nouns and three new verbs. Are you ready? Good!
The nouns are:
Huch / money
naH / fruit or vegetable
yuch / chocolate
The verbs are:
ghaj / have
nob / give
poQ /demand or require
QIb: jIghung ’ach Huch vIghajbe’ / I’m hungry, but I don’t have money
’angghal: jIghungchoHchugh yuch vISop / if I get hungry, I eat chocolate
QIb: yuch vIpoQ. DaH HInob / I require chocolate. give it to me now!
’angghal: Hoch vISopta’ ’ach naHmey qanoblaH / I ate it all, but I can give you vegetables
QIb: naHmey vImuS. DaH jIghung ’ej jI’IQ / I hate vegetables. Now I am hungry and depressed
That’s it. Six new words, including some extremely useful verbs, and one of the most popular nouns in any language. Try swapping in other words that you already know and see how you can change and practice this conversation. Keep it up, and not only will you open worlds through language, you might even get some chocolate out of it too. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
Today’s podcast is brought to you by Sweet Potato Pie, a collection of wonder and delight by Lawrence M. Schoen.
“Sweet Potato Pie” [is] weird and wonderful and will dig into you more with its strangeness than with its deep meaning, but as most stories don’t get a hold at all, that’s just fine.
— Matthew M. Foster, Tangent
Lawrence Schoen’s “The Amulet of Winter” is at the top level a quite entertaining story.
— Rich Horton, Fantasy Magazine
“The Sky’s the Limit” is the perfect mixture of humor and suspense.
— Sherwood Smith, author of the Inda series
