Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
I am told that many listeners to this podcast are married, and wanted the words to refer to spouses (other than bang). The word for wife is be’nal. That’s B, E, Apostrophe, N, A, L. be’nal
Not surprising, the word for husband is loDnal. L, O, Capital D, N, A, L. loDnal
Let’s talk about them, shall we?
pIj HoDvetlh SIgh be’nallI’
your wife frequently influences that captain
muSeymoH loDnallI’ ghIch
your husband’s nose excites me
loDnalwI’ rurmo’ puqloDlI’ qaHoHnIS
because your son resembles my husband, I need to kill you
One might, you know, take all the people you know and cast them into sentences as husbands and wives, adding other words from the vocabulary you’ve already learned to add further meaning and association to them and aid your future recall. It’s a clever mnemonic trick, applying the worlds you’ve already opened to the language you’re trying to improve. See? It works both ways. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.

I’ve been doing these podcasts since January 1st of this year. Beginners can go back to through the archives and start with the first podcast. It assumes no knowledge of the language, and each podcast builds upon the ones before it.
They tend to run between two and five minutes each (most of them much closer to two).
