Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
Sometimes things don’t go quite as planned. Despite the best of intentions, accidents happen. You need to be able to express this in Klingon. Today’s selection is the word bong. B, O, NG. bong means accidentally. Like most chuvmey, put it at the beginning of the phrase you want it to describe. Like so:
bong Sogh vIHoHqa’
I accidentally killed the lieutenant again
chaq bong ‘oy’naQwIj Datu’laH
perhaps you can accidentally find my painstick
bong paqlIj tlhappa’ nov wISuvnIS
before the alien accidentally takes your book, we need to fight her
Learning a language is all too often viewed as a purely cerebral endeavor. But why? For a change of pace, imagine assigning different kinds of words to different parts of your body. You might notice the sensations of hot and cold and other verbs of state in your hands and feet. You might associate each of your fingers with a few different verb prefixe. You could choose to remember types of suffixes by assigning them to different areas of your face and studying them every morning when you look in the mirror. It sounds odd, but it’s just another way you can use language to open worlds, in this case worlds of your imagination. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
