Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
Once more we venture into the exciting world of chuvmey, and once more we have a little gem of a word that you put at the front end of a sentence. Today’s word is loQ. L, O, Capital Q. loQ means slightly, and you can use it to qualify an otherwise straightforward statement.
loQ wotmey wImaS
we slightly prefer verbs
loQ qaHoHchugh chaq bIHeghchoHbe’
if I slightly kill you, perhaps you won’t die
loQ romuluSngan Duj ram law’ DujlIj ram puS
the Romulan’s ship is slightly more insignificant than your ship
You might notice how good your command Klingon feels, when you’ve been practicing a while. Take the various sample sentences, and plug in other words here and there. Swap out nouns and verbs, and get comfortable with the rhythm of the grammar, the feel of the language. The more familiar it becomes, the more readily it will open worlds for you. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
