Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.

Congratulations! You’ve made it through to another Friday. Which means you’ve earned the right to acquire another word from Marc Okrand’s Klingon for the Galactic Traveler.

Today’s word is Dab. Capital D, A, B. Dab means dwell in/at or reside in/at. It’s the ideal word to talk about where you live. So let’s try it out.

tach Dab chom
the bartender resides at the tavern

reH batlhlIj Dab qa’lIj
your spirit always dwells in your honor

SoSlI’ Suchpa’ nov Duj Dab nov
before he visited your mother, the alien lived on the ship

When you choose to learn a new language, then it changes the way you look at the world. Each new word or phrase or grammatical structure is compared to your daily language. Sometimes the comparisons line up perfectly, other times they are wildly different. Both sorts teach you things about your first language as well as the new one, and both open worlds. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
