Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
I’m back from Lunacon, but I have to admit I’m a little worn out. I’m sure you can understand why, and don’t need me to list the reasons. But that being said, and since it’s Noun Day, it does suggest a choice for today’s word: meq means reason. M, E, Lowercase Q. meq. I’m sure you can think of lots of ways to use this, so let’s try a few:
muQeHmoH chom meq
the bartender’s reason angered me
Duj potlh law’ meq potlh puS
instinct is more important than reason
reH meqmey tu’laH qoHpu’
fools can always find reasons
Reasons. Explanations. Justifications. How would it feel if you didn’t need any of them to explain your choices? What if you simply did what you did because that’s what you chose to do? Honestly, I can’t think of a reason for learning Klingon that someone else couldn’t shoot down, other than to say “Study Klingon because it’s what you choose to do.” Do you need another reason? I’ve always found that language opens worlds is enough. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
