Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
Today is the last day of Lunacon, where I’ve been busily engaged as their author Guest of Honor all weekend. I’ll be heading home soon, but before I do I need to make sure you have a new verb prefix to practice with. So let’s get to it!
Today’s prefix is lI-. That’s L, Capital I. lI- indicates a third person subject, either singular or plural, and a second person plural object. That means the subject can be he, she, it, or even they, and the object is you (plural). Some sample sentences will make it clearer:
lISuvnIS romuluSnganpu’
the Romulans need to fight you’all
lIHoHbe’chugh Hagh vavnI’lI’
if he doesn’t kill you guys, his grandfather will laugh
lIQeHnISmoHchugh nIteb HIq tlhutlhlaH
if she needs to anger you (plural), she can drink the ale by herself
You now have another verb prefix to play with. Will you spend the rest of the day drilling with it so you have it down perfectly before the next podcast, or will you practice by contrasting it with the other prefixes we’ve already gone over to not only learn this new one but review and become more comfortable with what has come before? Either way, you’ll be expanding your command of the language, and that in turn will open new worlds for you. qo’mey posmoH Hol.
