Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.

It’s Friday, my friends, and I am far from home today, wearing one of my other hats. Today I’m off at Lunacon, a science fiction convention in Rye, New York, where I am their author guest of honor. Yay for me. But before I left town, I recorded this selection taken from Marc Okrand’s Klingon for the Galactice Traveler, so have no fear. I wouldn’t abandon you.

Today’s word is the verb roS. R, O. Capital S. roS means lick. Let’s try it out.

nov ghIch roSqa’ qoH
the fool is licking the alien’s nose again

tujchoHDI’ ‘IwlIj qablIj roSnIS romuluSngan
when your blood becomes hot, the Romulan will need to lick your face

ghaytan DaroSlaHchugh jIHagh
likely, if you can lick it, I will laugh

One could find many situations in which to practice Klingon, because the versatility of language is inherent in its use. Pick any two words you’ve learned thus far, and makeup a useful sentence with them. Then pick another two and do it again. Repeat, over and over, building your fluency and flexibility. Your goal is to be able to say anything about anything. As you draw near that goal, your growing command of language will open worlds. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
