Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
It’s a fine day for a leftover, so thanks for coming by. Today’s bit of Klingon grammar is the word wej, W, E, J. wej, among other things, means not yet. Like most of the chuvmey we’ve seen thus far, it tends to occur at the beginning of a phrase or sentence, qualifying the timing of things. As you practice the following examples, and generate still others on your own, compare in your own mind the variety of meanings you can get by using words like wej, as well as similar words you already know like DaH and tugh.
wej mamejrup
we are not yet ready to leave
bIghung ‘ach wej bol nujlIj
you are hungry, but your mouth does not yet drool
DaH DaSuvchoH ‘ach wej DaHoHlaH
now I will fight you, but I cannot yet kill you
The Klingon language, as you have seen, is all about verbs, acting and being. A person is able to perform some action, such as practice grammar and vocabulary. Today you have learned how to express that pause between intention and completion. Reflect on that today. It’s a whole new world of description made possible by language. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
