Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.

I have to confess, I’ve committed a couple errors in the last recording or so. It’s the Feklahr, you know. He’s everywhere. But I have take responsibility. Admitting one’s mistakes is more important than saving face. And speaking of face that noun in Klingon is qab. Lowercase Q, A, B. qab

mouth is nuj. N, U, J. nuj

eye is mIn. M, Capital I, N. mIn. So to talk about about eyes would be mInDu’. Do you remember the Type 2 Noun suffix –Du’ that marks the plural form, but only for body parts?

ghIch is nose. GH, Capital I, CH. ghIch

qogh is ear. Lowercase Q, O, GH. qogh

and the hair on your head (as opposed to other hair) is jIb. J, Capital I, B, jIb

So, let’s talk about your face. I mean, qablIj:

qoghDu’lIj tIn law’ mInDu’lIj tIn puS
your ears are bigger than your eyes

mevbe’chugh nujlIj qaHoHchoH
if your mouth does not stop, I will kill you

chaq romuluSgnan ghIch maS SoSlI’
perhaps your mother prefers the Romulan’s nose

Sooner or later you’ll find yourself comfortable with all the vocabulary we’ve been discussing. Then the challenge becomes combining the pieces, building phrases and sentences. Some of them will make as much sense as your mother’s preference for Romulan noses, others may be insightful and deep. You won’t know until you try, and sooner or later, you will try. Trust me, I know. I’ve seen it before. Language opens worlds. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
