Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language.

I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen and today is Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 and I bet you came here hoping to pick up a few more nouns. I’d hate to disappoint you, so let’s get right to it.

tej means scientist, T, E, J. tej

Qel is a doctor or physician. Capital Q, E, L. Qel

tach means bar or saloon or cocktail lounge, and it’s spelled T, A, CH. tach

chom means bartender, that’s CH, O, M. chom

nIQ means breakfast, and is spelled N, Capital I, Capital Q, nIQ

megh is lunch, that’s M, E, GH. megh

‘uQ is dinner, spelled Apostrophe, U, Capital Q. ‘uQ

and ghem is a midnight snack, spelled GH, E, M. ghem

and now, in addition to being able to talk about meals, you can say the first Klingon palindrome I ever made. Ready?

ghem rur megh
lunch resembles a midnight snack

You can also go and practice having new subjects doing things (I know you were getting tired of “droolers” and Romulans), as well as new objects to act on. See what you can come up with. And feel free to post them to the comments of the website.

You may or may not have noticed how comfortable you’re getting with Klingon, taking simple sentence patterns and plugging in different words. It can sneak up on you. Next time you’re at a meal, a part of your mind will plug in the right word for it, and when you do, you’ll smile.

Why? Because qo’mey poSmoH Hol, Language Opens Worlds.
