Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language.
I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen and today is Friday, January 21st, 2011. Congratulations, you’ve made it through another week, and your reward is a bright shiny new word from Marc Okrand’s Klingon for the Galactic Traveler.
Today’s word is ngIj. That’s NG, Capital I, J. Say that with me now, ngIj. . . ngIj. . . ngIj. . .
ngIj means be rowdy or unruly
I’m sure you can think of all sorts of sentences you can construct with ngIj, like:
ngIj SuvwI’ the warrior is rowdy
reH ngIj jabwI’lI’ your waiter is always unruly
tugh ngIjjaj romuluSngan may the Romulan soon be rowdy
Try a few more combination and substitutions. Fold this new word into your daily vocabulary. See if you can come up with a few toasts. Trust me, it will help you get over any lingering hangover effects from yesterday’s lesson.
Some people find learning Klingon surprisingly easy, much easier than whatever language class they were required to take back in junior high. But that’s not surprising. Learning anything is always easier when it’s something you want to do anyway, and learning is also always easier when it’s something fun. And what’s more fun than learning Klingon? Seriously.
And that’s yet another reason why I say, qo’mey poSmoH Hol, Language Opens Worlds.
