Welcome to the fourth installment of DaHjaj Hol, a daily bit of Klingon language, to help you get comfortable with the warriors’ tongue. Today is Noun Day! Will it be a person, place, or thing?

Give a listen, and let me know what you think.

I’m trying to follow the course and it would be useful to have a written reference to the vocabulary in each installment. Just so that I don’t have to guess when spelling (the Klingon orthography might be regular but I don’t know it 🙂

Thanks for your work

This is a great idea!

I’ll start including vocabulary with each blog post.

And (once I manage to connect with my webmaster) probably also a separate webpage showing all the vocabulary so far.

Is there a brief listing available of the different classes of Duj? I’ve found a few online, but no comprehensive list anywhere.

Not an unreasonable question, but an answer doesn’t spring to mind.

Some judicious use of Google-fu might serve you well. I’d do it, but I’m busy loading up the next couple days’ lessons.

Did a search for “*Duj” on http://www.klingonska.org/dict and got:

tlharghDuj: Scout ship

may’Duj: Battle cruiser
DIvI’may’Duj: Federation battle cruiser

HIvDuj: Attack fighter

qughDuj: Cruiser

SuyDuj: Merchant ship

toDDuj: Rescue ship

tongDuj: Freighter

toQDuj: Bird-of-Prey

veQDuj: Garbage scow

veSDuj: Warship

Some specific classes:

bI’rel: B’rel class
– bI’rel tlharghDuj: B’rel-class scout ship
qItI’nga’: K’Tinga class
qIvo’rIt: K’Vort class

Some specific ships:

tI’ang: T’Ong (from TNG: “The Emissary”)
‘entepray’: Enterprise
– DIvI’ ‘ejDo’ ‘entepray’: The Federation starship Enterprise
