Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.

I’m going to give you two verbs today. Don’t get excited though because these two distinct words in Klingon apparently mean the same thing in English. Yeah… it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either, which seemed like a good reason to share them with you. The first verb is pI’. P, Capital I, Apostrophe. pI’. The second verb is ror. R, O, R. ror . Both verbs means be fat. Here are a few overweight examples:

SoSlI’ pI’ law’ mughato’ pI’ puS
your mother is fatter than a mugato

latlh chab vISopchugh jIrorchoH
if I eat another pie, I’ll become fat

bIpI’bej ’ach bIrorbe’
you’re certainly fat, but you’re not fat

William Riker once told me, “it doesn’t matter how fat I get, as long as I show up on time and know my lines.” It’s an honorable sentiment, and you know that a language warrior is always prepared. I’m not sure what the bit about being fat has to do with it, but those Starfleet guys don’t always make sense. Anyway, just remember this: qo’mey poSmoH Hol
