Today we have our third guest interviews with a Klingon speaker, recorded live during last month’s qep’a’ wa’maH chorghDIch, the 18th annual Klingon Language Conference.

LS: Once more at the qep’a’ in Reno, long since past as you’re listening to this, we have ghunchu’wI’, also known as Alan Anderson, who has graciously agreed to speak a little English for us, just to tell you his favorite word in Klingon. Alan?
AA: Since almost the beginning of when I started studying Klingon, I’ve had one word that I really admired. The word is SIQ. Spelled all capitals, S, I, Q. It means endure or bear. And the reason I like it so much is specifically because it is in all capitals. You can put it on a license plate.
(laughter in the background)
LS: Very pragmatic. Would you mind using it in a sentence please?
AA : Sure. HISIQ. Bear with me.
(more laughter)
LS: And, I can’t help but notice that the way you’ve made this a sentence is to simply put a prefix on this word, a prefix which is also in all capitals.
AA : Of course.
LS: Consistency. Klingons surely admire consistency. Thank you very much.
AA : You’re quite welcome.
