Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.

Today’s verb expands your vocabulary into the modality of sound. It’s Qoy. Capital Q, O, Y. Qoy means hear. So, hear the following examples, and then practice!

not HoD wIQoy
we never hear the captain

ghoghwIj DaQoylaHchugh qatu’laH
if you can hear my voice, I can find you

Sunarghpa’ mu’meywIj boQoynIS
before y’all escape, you need to hear my words

Practicing Klingon is hard, if for no other reason than because you probably don’t spend time with too many other people who speak or are learning the language. This is part of the challenge. You need to find ways to use it every day. You could make a point of teaching friends a word a day. You could give coworkers a simple phrase at the start of the week, and swap out the verb each day to alter the meaning. You could try on the role of being the teacher instead of the student, staying just a bit ahead of your pupils, and have the amazing experience of learning by teaching. You could open many worlds with language, but you already know that. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
