Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.

And since it’s Wednesday, that means it’s time for us to open the big bag of chuvmey and reach down deep for a new word. Today’s choice is pIj, P, Capital I, J. pIj means frequently or often, and like so many other chuvmey we’ve seen, tends to occur at the beginning of a standard Object-Verb-Subject phrase. Like so:

pIj juSeymoH
you frequently excite us

pIj betleHwIj boroS
y’all frequently lick my bat’leth

reH nuSuv romuluSnganpu’ ‘ach pIj wIHoH
the Romulans always fight us, but we often kill them

ma’elchoHDI’ pIj megh wISop
when we enter, we often eat lunch

A person may not know if you’ve mastered a word or phrase right away. Real learning has to pass from conscious awareness to unconscious knowledge. That’s what all the practice is for. You’re building up your language reflexes. When you have them in place, you won’t have to think what you want to say, or how to say it, you’ll just speak the words as they come to you. And when you do, language will open worlds. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
