Hello, and welcome. You’re listening to DaHjaj Hol, your daily dose of Klingon language. I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen.
Today we’re going to follow up on yesterday’s bit of uncertainty and talk about a Type 9 verb suffix that follows in the same spirit.
–chugh means if. CH, U, GH. –chugh
using –chugh you can set up a conditional clause that may be familiar to you as an If/Then statement. It’s so easy, that I’m confident you’ll master it with just a few examples:
qaSuvchugh bIHeghchoH
if I fight you, you will die
HIq vItlhutlhchugh tugh jIchechqa’
if I drink the liquor I will soon be drunk again
romuluSngan DaHoHlaHbe’chugh Haghbe’ vavlI’
if you are not able to kill the Romulan, you father will not laugh
That’s how this works. You can take any statement and make it conditional with –chugh, can you not? Like most Type 9 suffixes, it’s a very powerful tool. Conditional phrases will expand your abilities with language. If you use this tool, language will open new worlds. qo’mey poSmoH Hol.
