I’m your host, Lawrence Schoen and today is Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011, and you know, nothing says Wednesday to me like a a grammatical leftover. So today we’re going to explore the exciting world of not.

not means never, and you’ll probably have no trouble remembering this word because it’s spelled just like the English word “not,” N, O, T. But please, remember to pronounce it not.

So, ready to take it out for a spin?

It’s really just that easy. You may find this single word a bit overwhelming as you begin to consider how much it adds to the range and power of what you can say. That’s okay. Some words, some ideas, will do that. Get comfortable with that thought. Rise to the challenge. Set aside time today to come up with ten brand new sentences using not. And when you’ve done that, do ten more. Pick a different verb for each. Use different nouns. Try out your full command of prefixes and suffixes. Only in this way will you truly begin to open worlds with language. And really, why else are you here? qo’mey poSmoH Hol, right?
