Renovation has announced this year’s Hugo (and Campbell) Nominees.

It’s an impressive list, to be sure, but I have some personal favorites and I feel the need to point them out to you even as I congratulate the individuals involved. So…

Huzzah to Rachel Swirsky for her Best Novella nomination for “The Lady Who Plucked Red Flowers beneath the Queen’s Window”

Huge Kudos to Aliette de Bodard for her Best Novelette nomination for “The Jaguar House, in Shadow”

Biased and Even Huger Congratulations to Eric James Stone for his Best Novelette nomination for “That Leviathan, Whom Thou Hast Made” which I will be reprinting in Eric’s forthcoming short story collection from Paper Golem.

Cheers to Carrie Vaughn for her Short Story nomination (a category near to my heart) for “Amaryllis”

Delighted and Unsurprised Hoorays to Mary Robinette Kowal for her Short Story nomination for “For Want of a Nail”

Celebration for Kij Johnson returning to the Short Story nomination ranks for “Ponies”

Pleased and Grateful Joy to Brandon Sanderson, Jordan Sanderson, Howard Tayler, and Dan Wells, for their Best Related Work nomination for Writing Excuses, Season 4

Heartfelt and This Time for Sure Support to Howard Tayler for his Best Graphic Story nomination for
Schlock Mercenary: Massively Parallel

And good luck to all the nominees for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer: Saladin Ahmed, Lauren Beukes, Larry Correia, Lev Grossman, and Dan Wells. Win or lose, you are now members of a very elite club. I look forward to greeting each of you with the secret handshake in Reno.

Thanks for the mention, Lawrence. As you can imagine I’m gleefully basking in the glow of two nominations, and the fact that I’m sharing the ballot with so much doubly-distilled essence of awesome.

I am very happy for you, my friend, even though it means you’re busier than ever before.

You and Sandra need to host a Space Mercenary dance at the Worldcon if you’re to beat Girl Genius. Demand equal time!
